Page Unified School District has named the person that will be replacing Jim Walker, as the superintendent of Page Unified School District.

Robert B. Varner, Jr., who has an ample amount of educational and administrative experience, will be filling Walker’s shoes.

The Page School Board had been vetting candidates for multiple weeks.

The district received a total of nine applications, out of which 4 candidates were selected for a meticulous 2-day interview process, which took place on March 9th and 10th.

The candidates had been interviewed by the Governing Board, a committee of staff and members of the community, and had spent time with school board leadership members.  They also had a Q&A session with students as part of the high school tour, and participated in a casual meeting with members of the community at the Lake View Elementary school, during which, input from the community was collected and used to assist in the decision-making process.

Lake Powell Communications spoke with Irene Jones, President of the School Board, about the decision to hire Varner.

“It was kind of difficult because we had some good candidates that we felt really good about.  The ones that we brought to interview were all good candidates.  I think that probably Rob stood out because he is a very engaging individual, very eager, gregarious, and connects very well with people,” said Jones.

He also seemed to be eager to become a part of the community, according to Jones.

Varner will assume the role of superintendent on July 1st of this year, when Walker’s contract is up.
