veseli_smallA former Army soldier, Cemaludin Veseli, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for fatally shooting his girlfriend, Autumn Tenney, in her Greenehaven apartment. Coconino County prosecutors say 32-year-old Cemaludin “Daniel” Veseli got the presumptive sentence Thursday without the possibility of early parole or time off for good behavior.

A jury convicted Veseli in September on one count of second-degree murder. Veseli was convicted in the death of his girlfriend, 20-year old Autumn Rae Tenney, who was found shot to death in her home on May 12, 2012.

Veseli was seen running from the apartment and was later arrested, extremely intoxicated. The couple had been arguing the night of the murder. Vaseli was a weapons specialist who had claimed he was cleaning his gun, when it accidentally went off. He was sentenced to the maximum 16 years on the second degree conviction. There was an error at the end of the trial which disallowed aggravation which would have lead to a 22 year sentence.

A Taking Back Autumn Luminary was held in Page City Park in December last month to mark Autumn’s birthday and remember the domestic violence victim. Tenney grew up in Big Water, Utah.

Taking Back Autumn, a local foundation, was established through Another Way (Page Regional Domestic Violence Services) to help educate, prevent, and assist in rural domestic violence so parents and loved ones don’t have to suffer such a loss. Donations may be made to the foundation in Autumn’s memory and will be used directly in the effort to provide transitional housing for those escaping situations of domestic violence.

A presentation “The Life of Autumn Tenney” is posted online at
