In a case that has been investigated for a year now, a former pharmaceutical supervisor at the Veterans Administration hospital in Salt Lake City is suspected of stealing over 20,000 painkillers, as well as a large amount of testosterone.

That’s according to a report released this week by the Veterans Affairs office in Utah’s capital city. It says the inspector general and the Drug Enforcement Agency were both notified and an investigation got underway as soon as they became aware of the issue.

There are reports that perhaps the thefts could have been suspected earlier had certain software been installed, as required, at the hospital.

In all, a reported half-million dollars worth of drugs were taken in the theft, which was carried over a period of time. The former employee suspected in the crime is no longer with the VA and has since seen his pharmacy license expire.

Lake Powell Communications has requested a comment from the Salt Lake City veterans Affairs office. In their release they report that they have been cooperating completely in the investigation.
