ADOT LogoADOT says it’s full steam ahead for the repair of US 89. Dustin Krugel with the Arizona Department of Transportation Communications Office reports,

Considerable progress has alreay been made on the project. Crews have been busy building access roads at the site prior to the start of heavy construction, which is scheduled to start late this month when crews begin drilling and blasting operations.” Dustin Krugel/ADOT Communications

The roadway which suffered catastrophic damage following a landslide on the early morning of Feb. 20, 2013, has remained closed after a 500-foot section of roadway buckled in Echo Cliffs, approximately 25 miles south of Page.

89 Roundabout Progress

When Krugel was asked to comment on rumors that the 89 Roundabout might be going out to bid soon, Krugel responded that “hopefully” it will go to bid soon. Krugel also confirmed that in order for the US 89 Roundabout project to move forward, ADOT will need to receive an executed agreement from Walmart. At last report, in early July, a “tentative agreement” had been reached with Walmart. Once an agreement has been received, Krugel says the ball can start rolling on the project.

Before moving forward with the project, ADOT will also seek approval from the Page City Council at one of the upcoming council meetings and then the project will go to bid. From the time the project goes out to bid, it is expected to take approximately three months before construction can begin. If the project starts this winter as expected, it is projected to be completed in summer 2015.
