Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye has appointed two new members to the Dine Board of Education.

Benjamin Jones is a graduate of Northern Arizona University. He received a doctoral degree of philosophy in political science in 1985. Jones earned a master’s in political science in 2007 and has a master’s degree in business administration.

“The Navajo Nation is uniquely positioned to reinvent their educational framework. The nation has a strong belief in maintaining harmony,” Jones said. “I believe Navajo education works best grounded in academia that integrates our culture and language,” he added.

Jones also served as the entrepreneurial director of Navajo Technical University.

Manley Alan Begay, Jr. has more than 35 years of experience in education, including as a tenured professor at NAU. Begay also worked for NAU’s College of Education for the Department of Educational Leadership.

He has two doctorate degrees from Harvard. In 1985, Begay received an education specialist degree from Brigham Young University.

Begay’s past work has included research and executive education sessions relating to First Nations and Native American education.

“I have professional interests in putting theory into practice regarding issues of indigenous education,” Begay said.
