Trial Involving 2011 Police Shooting Underway

December 10
16:05 2014

Page Police LOGOA trial got underway this morning in a federal courtroom in Phoenix concerning a police-involved shooting death in Page three years ago. It was on Father’s Day 2011 when 50-year old Page business owner, William Foust, was shot to death by a Page officer after the officer responded to a domestic dispute at the man’s business in the 800-block of Vista Avenue.

Since that time, the officer has left the Page Police department.

The family of the decedent filed a civil lawsuit against the officer, the Page Police and the city seeking damages as a result of the incident, though the shooting was eventually ruled justified.  Page City Attorney, Joe Estes is assisting in the defense and says he is quite confident the city will prevail.

The trial is expected to last until next Friday, the 19th.  Mr. Estes told Lake Powell Communications that while the family made several federal claims against the city, all of those have been dismissed.  There is one state claim remaining, and that is what the trial is all about.  Mr. Estes made it clear that at no time was the city going to settle in this matter. That is why it has gone to trial, and again, the story is confident about the eventual outcome.
