Time for Flu Vaccinations
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention remind everyone it’s that time of year again…time for yearly flu vaccinations. The CDC recommends a shot as the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses. It is recommended that everyone older than 6 months get a flu shot.
While obtaining a flu vaccine can be important for anyone, it’s especially important for those with a high-risk of serious flu-related complications and those who care for people that have a risk for developing complications from the flu, including:
· Pregnant women.
· Children younger than 5 years old, but especially children younger than 2.
· Those older than 50 years old.
· Those with certain chronic medical conditions.
· Those living in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
· Those living with or who care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:
§ Health care workers.
§ Household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children less than 6 months old.
Coconino County Public Health Services can help those who fall under the high risk categories find out more about obtaining a vaccination.
