The U.S. Marshall’s Service has a Shiprock (N.M.) man in custody who is accused of murdering his girlfriend. The victim, a 53-year old female, was found dead in the suspect’s home last week (June 28).

The suspect is identified as Jerry Johnson, Jr. He actually admitted the crime to the victim’s probation officer, telling the officer further that he planned in killing himself because he had committed murder.

He told the officer that he planned on pouring gasoline on himself and the house and striking a match. The probation officer evidently talked him out of it, but when law enforcement arrived at the home the carpet was saturated with gas.

Reports indicate that after stabbing the victim on June 26th, the man continued drinking until he passed out. He changed the woman’s clothing the next day and burned the bloody clothes outside. Reports indicate further the reason he called the probation office instead of the police was because on the day he reported the crime, June 28, the victim had an appointment with the officer.
