Arizona Governor Jan Brewer

On Monday a Washington D.C.-based District Court judge will hold the first hearing for a preliminary injunction in Sheriff Arpaio’s lawsuit against President Obama, The Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. Arpaio’s suit claims the President’s recent executive action on immigration was unconstitutional.

In response, dozens of activists from a coalition of Arizona immigrant rights groups will join Congressman-elect Ruben Gallego and Supervisor-elect Steve Gallardo at a press conference Monday morning to demand an end to Arpaio’s lawsuits.

It is estimated that Arpaio’s lawsuits have cost Maricopa County more than $50 million over the years, earning him the nickname “America’s most expensive sheriff.”

Brewer’s Dreamer Challenge Denied

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer met up with disappointment December 17 when the U.S. Supreme Court refused to over-turn an earlier lower court ruling that will allow “Dreamers” to begin testing for driver’s licenses in the state. Dreamers are undocumented immigrants under 31-years of age who have had no trouble with the law while in Arizona. The Supreme Court was seemingly Governor Brewer’s last hope to keep the dreamers from acquiring driver’s licenses.
