Fowler takes over for District 1 Supervisor Art Babbott, who served as Board Chair for the past nine months. Fowler served as Vice-Chair during this time, which is the length of a Chair and Vice Chair term in Coconino County.

Ms. Fowler said she is eager to serve the County and its residents as Chair. She served a previous term as Chair from August 2011 to April 2012.

“I am very pleased to serve as the Board of Supervisors Chair for the second time,” she said. “I serve on this Board with supportive and hardworking colleagues, and I look forward to working with them in this capacity on topics facing our diversely rich and unique County.”

The Board also voted to name District 2 Supervisor Liz Archuleta as Vice-Chair. Archuleta is currently serving her fifth term on the Coconino County Board of Supervisors representing District Two.

Archuleta is the first Latina elected to office in the history of Coconino County.

Supervisors Fowler and Archuleta will begin their leadership roles as Chair and Vice Chair Tuesday, when an official “hand-off” of the gavel will take place between Chairs.

Prior to Tuesday’s meeting, a special commemorative event was hosted by the BOS for Coconino County’s 125th anniversary. The county was founded on February 19, 1891 and the first meeting of a Board of Supervisors was held April 1, 1891.
