According to a sales tax revenue statistics report for the city of Page, our town seems to be heading in a positive direction financially.

The report details a thirteen percent increase in sales tax revenue over the course of twelve months from fiscal year 2014 to 2015.

For the month of February 2015 there was a three percent increase compared to February 2014.Linda Watson small pic

Lake Powell Communications spoke with the Finance Director for the city of Page, Linda Watson, about the statistic.

According to her, there was an increase in sales tax revenue because of “increased construction and tour buses started showing up earlier.”

What does the increased money mean for the residents as well as businesses of Page?  It means the city could use the extra money for the beautification of our roads, parks, and many other improvements to the city’s infrastructure.

Watson said she was definitely surprised by the findings because she had expected a lower percentage.

When asked about projections for next year, she said they were still in the preliminary stages, but project roughly $8.3 million to $8.5 million by June.

To put all the percentages in perspective, the amount of sales tax revenue collected for the last twelve months was $8,555,504.32.  In the same period last year only $7,560,544.93 was collected.  That is a difference of $994,959.39.

For the month of February 2015, the total was $436,893.04 compared to February 2014 which was $424,680.99.  That is a difference of $12,212.05.

Sales tax revenue appears to be on the right track for Page.
