Lighting and thunderstorms over Prescott on Saturday forced the cancellation of the number 1-3 seeded varsity races of the Ray Wherley Cross Country Invitational. However, with strong efforts from their lower seeded runners, Page won both the boys’ and girls’ varsity races.
For the boys, freshman Byron Tsinnie took the top spot with a time of 18:28. Jevon Yazzie took second with Dorian Daw and Justin Billy finishing 5th and 6th respectively.
The girls had a dominant showing with their four runners’ placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Mariah Yazzie led the pack with a time of 21:48, followed by Shayla Tate, Tripper Tate and Mia Smith. The fastest runner not from Page was 42 seconds slower than the 4th place finisher Smith and a full 2 minutes 6 seconds behind Yazzie.
This weekend Coach Macarthur Lane leads his teams to Mesa to take part in the King of the Mountain Invitational.
On the volleyball court, the Sand Devils traveled to Flagstaff for the Coconino Invitational. Page picked up wins against Shonto Prep, Apache Junction and Greyhills Academy, finishing the invitational with a 3-6-1 record.
The freshman and JV squads are in action tonight at home against Tuba City with freshman, JV and varsity all playing at home this Thursday versus Window Rock.
