Phil Sees His Shadow; More Winter to Come…in Page, too!

February 03
17:01 2014

phil_smallOn Sunday, February 2, the weather predicting groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, saw his shadow which, according to tradition, means six more weeks of winter! We saw some of that winter weather making an appearance over the weekend, too!  In Page, we woke up to snow on Saturday – unless you slept in – in which case you might have missed it because it didn’t stick around for long.  More is also in the forecast.

For the Page/Lake Powell area we have a slight chance of rain and snow showers through Tuesday. Highs in the mid-40’s with lows in the mid to upper 20’s.  The chance of rain and snow showers will return later in the week as well, so we guess Phil is right.  Phil made his first prediction way back in 1886.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAZARDOUS WEATHER STATEMENT

The National Weather Service has also  issued another Hazardous Weather Statement for Northern Arizona as a weak disturbance could bring some more light snow in the lower elevations of 3500 to 4500 feet for today and tonight.  On Tuesday, light snow showers continue across the region with snow level ranges hovering between 3000 to 4000 feet.  An inch or two of accumulation is also possible over the higher elevation mountain areas.  Late Thursday, another strong storm system and cold front will move across Arizona, so expect a drop in high temperatures along with increasing snow shower coverage and moderate snow accumulations possible over the high country.
