Last night the Page Police Department participated in National Night Out at Page City Park. Police departments across America take part in National Night Out to interact with their respective communities and educate citizens on a variety of public safety issues.Night out small 1

At the Page Police Department’s tent they were handing out badge stickers, National Night Out fans, balloons, bracelets and popsicles to the kids while displaying information on child safety and offering free ID kits for kids. The police department also had displays on drug awareness and drug prevention.

Another Way, or Page Regional Domestic Violence Services, was handing out flashlights, pens and whistles while also giving information on the multiple ways Another Way serves the community. Starting this year, Another Way provided training for local law enforcement that emphasized on the safe responding and working with victims of domestic violent calls. Family services, healing arts, emergency shelter, clothing vouchers, and a making changes offender program are some of the other services Another Way brings to the area.

In the Page Public Library’s tent, children could sit in the shade and enjoy one of the many books the library had brought along with them. The library was also handing out their Children’s Event Calendar for the month of August and raffling of a chance to win free books provided by the library.

Jeffrey Begay, the regional PR representative and flight paramedic for Classic Air Medical, was handing out candy to the visitors and passing out information on their Advanced Life Support Rescue and Transport Service Membership Plan. The classic Air Medical Air Ambulance Membership Plan is open to everyone at an annual cost of $60 and gives you access to 24- hour on call air ambulances that will transport you when illness or injury demands skilled medical emergency care. Classic Air Medical service area includes Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Oregon. Because Classic Air Medical responds to a lot of traffic accidents, they were also handing out information on drunk driving statistics in Arizona in an effort to educate and keep drunk drivers off of Arizona roadways.Night Out small 2

Canyonlands Health Care was handing out water bottles and using a stuffed animal like representation of HPV to educate the public on HPV prevention. Getting the word out about the Family Planning Services program that Canyonlands Health Care offers was a big part of the Canyonlands table at the Night Out. Canyonlands Health Care offers confidential family planning visits for birth control counseling and administration and family planning education. They also offer family planning services that can help determine the number and spacing of children. STD screening, breast and cervical cancer screening, HIV screening and confidential teen services are also all a part of Canyonlands Healthcare’s Family Planning Services.

The Page Fire Department, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, and Encompass Health Services all participated in the event as well.

National Night Out is observed by over 16,000 police departments across the country.
