Powell_Museum_SmallThe Page Tourism Board had not one, but two meetings last week and Director Lee McMichael says that was probably a good thing as they might have been “working until midnight,” otherwise!

The regular meeting on October 22nd, included a presentation by Mark Law, President of the Powell Museum Board of Directors, who made the case for expanding the museum to the Tourism Board. The presentation by Law asked the board to consider some type of expansion so that the museum can better fulfill it’s dual role as a museum and visitor center in serving the heavy tourist population that visits the area every year. An expansion could be accomplished via a satellite branch or addition to the current building. Law was hopeful for some type of expansion project by June of 2014. The Tourism Board formed a sub-committee to discuss the proposal further.

At the Tourism Board’s second meeting held on the 24th, agenda items included discussion regarding attending the E-Tourism Summit in 2014. The decision to join a Fairs & Festival website was made. The Tourism Board also voted to join the Western Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus and, from a previous decision to join the Grand Circle Association, the board plans on taking advantage of advertising opportunities in the in the Grand Circle Travel Planner publication.
