Chief Balkcom speaks about Officer Van Nostrand, as the young officer listens

On Wednesday afternoon at Page Police Headquarters Page Police officer David Van Nostrand received a certificate of appreciation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The officer was nominated by Police Chief Frank Balkcom for his unselfish commitment to the youth of the Page area and being a positive role model for the Page Police Explorer Post.

Van Nostrand was actually instrumental in creating the post!

“David spent many hours working with the youth of our community,” said Chief Balkcom. “From where I come from we had police explorers who were my bosses. Some of them have retired.”

He said the path that you take in working with the youth will be rewarded to you in the future. He added that if anyone knows someone who has an interest, they should look into joining the explorer program.

“We are proud to be able to award David with this award from our national headquarters,” Darrel Moore told the gathering in handing Officer Van Nostrand his framed award.

Mr. Moore is the past State Commander of the Arizona VFW.

Chief Balkcom is also a member of the VFW.

It’s an honor to receive this award,” said Officer Van Nostrand in a very brief comment. “It’s such an honor to have this bestowed on me; thank you.”
