The 2016 Coconino County Spelling Bee is approaching quick, and two local kids that won the Page Unified School District Spelling Bee are advancing to compete in the county spelling bee.

One of the students, eight-year old Sky Cummings, who is in Ms. West’s third grade class, will be traveling to Coconino High School in Flagstaff to compete in the event on February 13th.

The Coconino County Spelling Bee will consist of home, public, charter and private school-students from throughout the county that won their local school district spelling bee.

Rotary Clubs from Flagstaff, Williams, and Grand Canyon will be contributing a cash prize.

One member from the Rotary Club will be selected to participate as one of the three spelling bee judges.

The champion of the Coconino County Spelling Bee will advance to the Arizona Educational Foundation 2016 Arizona Spelling Bee along with 27 other county champions.

The state bee will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19th at Eight/AZ PBS, 500 N. Central Ave., 6th Floor, Phoenix, AZ 85004.

The winner of the state spelling bee will advance to the finals at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

The national spelling bee will be held in late May or early June this year.

Lake Powell Communications wishes our local champions the best of luck!
