Page City Council Votes Against Electric Increase

May 16
14:39 2014

The Page City Council voted against a measure to add an increase to the franchise fees for electric and propane use during their May 14, 2014 meeting. Utility customers are already paying city debt reduction fees on sewer and garbage, and a measure to tack on more for the debt reduction fund for water also failed the vote on Wednesday night.

The city continues to debate and explore possible avenues of more revenue resource funding to pay down existing city debt from previous projects. One possible source is money from land sales. All money from city land sales has been dedicated to the city debt coffers and there was another approved sale on Scenic Drive Wednesday night. The sale was for 3 acres to Ronald Lee Rosser of Utah for $249,000 plus the city’s closing costs.

There was also discussion by the Page City Council pertaining to the Lake Powell National Golf Course Clubhouse Remodel Proposal by Aramark. Discussion continues on whether or not the city will agree to proceed with the upgrades and exactly how they might be accomplished. The city owns the clubhouse and manager Aramark wants to make improvements which will, hopefully, increase value and revenues for both Aramark and the city.
