Council_Chambers_SmallAt last Wednesday’s City Council meeting, the Arizona Department of Transportation made a report on the status of the landslide damaged portion of 89 and it’s repair. ADOT reports that they are currently finishing all the assessments necessary for the work to move forward, including the environmental report. ADOT also reports a consultant was selected for design in August and that, while still designing, they are also moving forward with construction plans.

As far as a time frame goes for work on 89, the construction process is expected to begin in December with actual dirt being “turned-over’ sometime in late Spring of 2014.

City Council members also questioned the lack of activity regarding the roundabout previously planned at Haul Road & 89 that has been in the works for some time with no progress. ADOT says the project is currently waiting on two things – identifying funding and construction easements.

A temporary construction easement is expected from McDonald’s by the end of the year with Walmart submitting shortly after. But, according to ADOT, the main problem continues to be state budget shortfalls for infrastructure projects like the proposed roundabout and both ADOT’s and City of Page hands have been tied.

In other council news, applications for the vacant City Manager position will be accepted until October 31, 2013. Current City Manager Rick Olson is retiring next month but has agreed to stay on in a part-time capacity for the interim position until his replacement is found. Council made the appointment of Olson as interim manager official at the meeting.

Discussion also took place regarding the upcoming vacancy of the City Attorney position in December. The possibility of an interim appointment was discussed and the applications cut off date was set for November 13, 2013. Current Attorney, Robert Wingo, has accepted a position with the city of Surprise, AZ.
