New Page City Manager Has Quit Before He Even Started

February 24
18:01 2014

Mayor Bill Diak confirms the new Page City Manager quit his new job over the weekend, before he even started! Donald Adams first day was to have been today, February 24, but not only did he quit, but he quit by email. Adams emailed city officials on Sunday morning to inform them of his decision to not accept the position. According to the emailed information, Adams claims to have been recently informed of a medical condition for which he must receive treatment; treatment apparently not available here in Page as he also communicated he has accepted another position near Salt Lake City.

Until a replacement can be found, the Mayor says Rick Olson will continue in the roll of interim City Manager, a roll he has been fulfilling for several months now. The Mayor praised Olson for his “dedication to his work, his city and community” calling him an “amazing guy.”

So where does that leave the city? According to the Mayor, “thank you, but” letters were just sent out to the other applicants on Wednesday of last week. He said he has instructed staff to vet the remaining applicants for those who have prior experience as a City Manager to present to the council. Whether they will choose to resume the search with this new round of ‘manager-experienced only’ applicants or start the process over again is unknown. An Executive Council Session is expected. A regular City Council meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday, February 26.

Lake Powell Communications will welcome interim City Manager Rick Olson as our guest on Lake Powell Middays on Tuesday, February 25 in the noon hour on radio stations KXAZ-FM and KPGE-AM.
