Navajo Nation to Stop Operating Gallup Detox Center

The Navajo Nation has announced that they will no longer operate a detox facility in Gallup, New Mexico.
President Russell Begaye and Vice President Jonathan Nez wrote a letter saying the Navajo Nation will no longer operate the Gallup Detox Center as of October 3rd.
The city of Gallup and McKinley County officials will work with the Navajo Nation to find a replacement. Gallup City Manager Maryann Ustick said it is important that services remain uninterrupted.
Contract bids will be accepted through Wednesday from interested parties.
The facility houses individuals who are too intoxicated to care for themselves for 12 to 72 hours.
Officials have acknowledged that services have been inadequate.
