A Navajo metal band from Window Rock will soon be touring with one of metal’s biggest legends.

Later this month, “I Don’t Konform” band members will travel to Denmark to record their first album with Metallica producer Flemming Rasmussen.  Rasmussen is notorious for his work with three of Metallica’s biggest albums: “Ride the Lightning,” which he produced in 1984, “Master of Puppets,” in 1986, and “And Justice For All,” in 1988.

It was the lead singer of “I Don’t Konform,” that reached out to Rasmussen.

The technique of taking the band to Europe first has been proven by numerous famous musicians to create a wave of fans in America that will want them back.

One musician in particular, Jimi Hendrix, did that exact thing.  Before he was well known, he toured in Europe.  His fame spread across the region and eventually to America, where people grew to love his music and wanted him back.

Since their inception in 1981, Metallica has released 37 singles, six live albums, and nine studio albums.  Their first studio album, “Kill ‘Em All,” was released in 1983.  One of their albums, simply known as “Metallica,” and known by its fans as the “Black Album,” propelled the band into the spotlight.

The “Black Album” released through Elektra Records on August 12, 1991 with their number one song to date, “Enter Sandman,” is their best selling album to date.  In 2003, the album was ranked number 252 on Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”  It was heavily promoted with a series of tours.  Of all the albums released by any and every band and artist in the past 25 years, none have topped Metallica’s sales figures of the “Black Album.”

Earlier this year, fans got a treat when it was confirmed that Metallica is recording a new album slated for release in late 2016 or early 2017.

The name of the album has not yet been released, but 20 of the songs have already been written.

As for the Navajo metal band, I Don’t Konform is scheduled to release its first album this August.

With such a considerable resume for Rasmussen, I Don’t Konform will hit the ground running.
