Mountain Cabin Burns to Ground

An unoccupied cabin in Duck Creek burned to the ground Monday morning.

When fire crews arrived, the roof of the 3,100 square-foot building had collapsed and the interior was fully engulfed in flames.

“There was an inversion so the fire wasn’t easy to see. It was obvious it had been burning for awhile,” described Cedar Mountain Fire Chief Casey Tuttle.

With snow falling at the rate of five to six inches an hour, Tuttle said the decision was made not to battle the storm and the fire at the same time.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.

The cabin’s owners had visited last week.
