It was a stolen gun that Verl Bedonie aimed at Flagstaff police officers last week when he was shot dead near the campus of Northern Arizona University.

Bedonie, a 26-year old resident of Tuba City, was shot early in the morning nine days ago, as he was reportedly attempting a carjacking with several innocent bystanders nearby.

The gun in question, according to the police department, had been stolen by Bedonie from a family in Kaibeto for whom he worked.

The investigation is ongoing.

A man attempting a carjacking yesterday morning in Flagstaff was shot and killed by police officers. The deceased suspect was identified by Flagstaff Police as Verl Bedonie, 26, of Tuba City.

According to reports, when police arrived on scene, which was in a residential area near the Northern Arizona University campus, the suspect was holding a driver at gunpoint. A Flagstaff detective took his own car and rammed the hostage’s vehicle. That led to Bedonie to get out and face police.

The suspect, refusing to throw down his gun, took aim and fired at officers. The officers returned fire and killed the man. None of the responding officers were injured.

However, one of the officer’s bullets went through the wall of a nearby home and struck a pet dog. Luckily, reports indicate that the dog will recover from its injuries.

The two officers who fired their weapons are on administrative leave while yesterday’s incident is investigated.
