Man Drives Truck into Golf Pond

January 20
19:38 2014

golfpond_smallCaptain Ray Varner with the Page Police Department confirmed that a truck was driven into the pond at the Lake Powell National Golf Course in Page over the weekend. For some reason the initial report of a vehicle in the pond was received by Kane County dispatch who forwarded the call to the Page Police Department on Sunday morning, January 19, 2014 at about 7 A.M. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck, fully submerged and a shivering suspect.

The driver of the truck claimed he had been driving on U.S. 89 when he must have fallen asleep, but he was later arrested on aggravated DUI charges. According to Varner, there  were no marks to indicate that the man had tried to avoid a collision or lost control of the vehicle.  The truck had been traveling on 89 southbound when it left the roadway and climbed up the hill to reach the pond where it eventually came to rest. The suspect was not injured in the incident and was identified as 27-year-old Todd Yazzie of Page.

On Monday morning, divers were called in to assist in the retrieval of the vehicle.
