August 26
11:28 2014

Page High CrashEarly Tuesday morning a motorist drove his Chevy Suburban completely through a wall at Page High School. The driver sustained minor cuts and scrapes, but otherwise was uninjured.

The accident occurred shortly before 4:30 Tuesday morning when the vehicle, which was northbound on Coppermine Rd. entered school property at a high rate of speed. It went right through a large concrete block and steel pole before proceeding through a multi-window frame assembly. The Suburban came to rest completely inside a classroom. Among the damage caused by the incident were water pipes attached to several table top islands which burst, causing flooding inside the classroom.

According to the Page Police Department in a release from Captain Ray Varner, the driver was identified as 47-year old Kayenta resident Edsel Young. He was treated at the scene by the Page Fire Department medical team and released as far as his injuries went. However, Young was then arrested because the investigation revealed that alcohol played a role in the crash. The charges against Young are Super Extreme DUI, False Reporting to a Law Enforcement Officer and Aggravated Criminal Damage.

School officials have estimated the damage caused by this one-vehicle crash at twenty thousand dollars.
