Lake Powell Life Celebrates Year of Online News

It’s been a year since Lake Powell Communications launched its updated news magazine, The online publication was built by Web Developer Kerry Kirkpatrick to deliver quality news for Northern Arizona and Southern Utah in a cutting-edge, mobile-friendly format. In addition to scrolling photos and ticker tape news, Kirkpatrick developed banner advertising opportunities and a Business Directory.

With the intention of bringing community news to the area, owner Janet Brown has been delivering radio news from Lake Powell Communications in Page, Arizona, for over 30 years. She wanted the online publication to portray the full gamut of life in the Lake Powell area, and named it Lake Powell Life. With new technologies and web format changes, Janet Brown brought Kirkpatrick in for a site renovation.  Now, a year later, the professional contributions of her staff and her own sales efforts have brought close to 400,000 page hits to the site, and Brown has no problem touting this number.  Hard work and salesmanship have made this site famous.

The new launched with a bang, and quickly grew locally, state-wide, and internationally. Half of the readers are regulars, but just as many visitors are finding the publication for the first time while searching for a news topic on Google.

Listeners on the KXAZ Jack FM 93.3 radio are turning to the online news publication to get the full story of the local radio news; while many readers go straight to the Classified and Community Billboard sections for details. In addition, the KXAZ Jack FM morning show features many local guests, whose interviews can be heard again online as Podcasts at

KXAZ Jack FM 93.3 radio news director Billie Wright contributes articles for the online publication and Mike Reilley provides community stories and local photography. Additionally, has been blessed with the contributions of a number of talented local writers; including Geri Kilgariff, Pam Brown and Kerry Kirkpatrick.

With a user-friendly, mobile format, over half of the visitors are accessing the news site on their mobile phones and tablets; the other half on their desktop computers. While the majority of readers of are in the greater Page Lake Powell area, interested parties from all over Arizona, the Southwest and Europe are going to as their source for local news.
