Lake Mead Hits a Historic Low

Lake Mead Hits a Historic Low

Unless Mother Nature gets back to letting rain pour down on the west in vast amounts, there will be water cutbacks in the not-too-distant future.

A not-too-pleasant milestone was reached the other day at Lake Mead, where the lake’s level dropped to an all-time low; 1,074 feet. It is thought by experts that the level can get up to 1,078 feet by the end of the year, which would avert an official water shortage declaration by the government. The water levels haven’t been this low sine the Hoover Dam was constructed in the 1930s.

Such a declaration will mean a serious cutback of water delivered to California and Arizona from Lake Mead.

Meanwhile, though, a darn good rain dance is needed for the Southwestern United States.
