Lady Sand Devils rolled through the 3A North region tournament this weekend to claim their 4th consecutive regional title.

Going undefeated in the region this season under third-year head Coach Whitehorse earned a bye in the first round of the region tournament. In the second round on Friday, the Lady Sand Devils matched up with the Ganado Hornets. Sand Devils played the Hornets twice in the regular season defeating them by an average margin of 18 points. Nothing changed in Friday night contest defeating the Lady Hornets 46-28. Junior Camryn Nockideneh led Page with 13 points on 4 for 6 shooting. Senior Mikala Benally contributed 11 points to send the Sand Devils to Saturdays Championship game.

Lady Sand Devils and the Chinle Wildcats would meet in the regional championship on Saturday. Page would win both regular-season games against the Lady Wildcats by an average of nine points. Sand Devils on Saturday would jump in front of the Wildcats early gaining momentum. Lady Sand Devils would lead by 13 at the break.

In the second half, Chinle would continue their struggle shooting as the Sand Devils shooting would continue to improve as the game went on. Myka Taliman would lead the Lady Sand Devils with 18 points on the evening shooting fifty percent. Nockideneh would not have the game she anticipated getting in foul trouble early for the Sand Devils but still managed to tally seven points.

After claiming their 4th consecutive championship game the all-region award was given out Lady Sand Devils Senior Myka Taliman, Camryn Nockideneh were selected, all-region first team. Mikala Benally earned a spot on all regions second team. Also, Myka Taliman was the offensive player of the year in the 3A North.

Lady Sand Devils’ are ranked 2nd in the state rankings headed into the state playoffs which start tomorrow. Page earned a first-round bye will face the winner of the Gilbert Christian and Florence game in Monument Valley on Friday night at 6:30.
