The Navajo Nation Council quarterly session got underway earlier this week. One of the first things President Russell Begaye talked about was the need for housing and health care services for the Nation’s veterans.

First District Congresswomen Ann Kirkpatrick was in Window Rock, too, and she agreed completely with president Begaye’s ideas for veterans.

“I’ve always made it a priority to attend the Navajo Nation Council’s quarterly sessions because representation is about showing up and being there, time after time — and it’s about listening,” Kirkpatrick told Lake Powell Communications. “We discussed many important topics, including efforts to improve tribal roads to ensure that Navajo children can get to school and access a quality education.”

She also talked about the “urgent need” to take care of our veterans.

“I was pleased to hear such strong support for my legislation to build the first veteran nursing home on the Navajo Nation,” said the Congresswoman.

The Navajo Nation Council meets quarterly, in addition to several special sessions from time to time.
