Human Remains Found in Grand Canyon
According to Grand Canyon National Park officials, human skeletal remains were recently found in the park. The remains were recovered by rangers from the Hermit Creek drainage area.The Coconino County Medical Examiner confirmed the remains are human.
Abandoned camping gear was found in the area of the remains. Authorities speculate it all may be associated with the 2010 disappearance of a man from Tucson, Arizona.
DNA testing is being conducted for positive identification of the deceased. The National Park Service along with the Coconino County Medical Examiner are investigating the incident. No other information is available at this time.
Over 685 people have died in the Grand Canyon over the years, according to the book “Over the Edge: Death in the Grand Canyon.” Written by Flagstaff authors Tom Myers and Michael Ghiglieri, they cite being young, male and solo among the biggest risk factors for death in the Grand Canyon.
