A 100-mile police chase involving a semi-tractor trailer Saturday led to the closure of Interstate-40 in both directions just west of Williams. No one was hurt and the driver was eventually apprehended.

The chase began near Kingman after authorities were alerted to the truck being driven in an unsafe manner. The report indicates that at one point it went through a rest area at about 80 MPH.

At the time that 9-1-1 calls began coming in, the truck was headed west on the highway. Later it turned around and headed east. That’s why the situation led to eastbound I-40 west of Williams.

It was in Ash Fork when the truck was brought to a halt by the use of spikes that punctured some of the eighteen wheels on the truck. Then a foot pursuit began and shots were reportedly fired by officers. The pursuit ended when a K-9 unit brought the suspect down.

The driver has not been identified.

He wasn’t shot, but he did apparently sustain injuries from the dog.
