Free Program on Increasing Energy Efficiency

Energy SavingThe Coconino County Sustainable Building Program, in partnership with Eco-Pro Coatings and Paintings, and Building Energy Performance, will host two workshops during of the 2014 Sustainable Building Tour on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The event begins at Willow Bend Environmental Education Center at 10 a.m. and is free with a suggested donation of $5 to support the center’s environmental education programs in local schools.  Attendees will have the unique opportunity to see live demonstrations on ways people can increase energy efficiency and comfort within their homes and buildings.

Eco-Pro Coatings and Painting generously donated spray foam insulation to Habitat for Humanity of Northern Arizona’s new Flagstaff residence. The insulation will greatly increase energy efficiency at the home, helping to provide long-term affordability for the homeowners.
Eco-Pro will install the spray foam insulation during the Sustainable Building Tour and will be
providing community members with the opportunity to see and learn about spray foam insulation, including product details, costs and benefits. The spay foam demonstration will be ongoing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Also during the Sustainable Building Tour, a workshop on home energy performance testing will be conducted. This workshop will be hosted by Building Energy Performance and will include blower door and duct leakage testing demonstrations at the Orion Residence, a featured tour location. These demonstrations will provide attendees with an opportunity to see and learn about the benefits of energy performance testing, including energy and money savings, and increased comfort and indoor health. This workshop is applicable for new or existing homes and buildings. The demonstrations will be hosted at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The demonstrations and self-guided tour are free and attract more than 200 people throughout the County and state. The event provides attendees with perspectives from homeowners and installers about the costs, processes, economic and environmental benefits of building sustainability. Many locations during the tour are within biking distance and are walkable from downtown Flagstaff.

The Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transit Authority (NAIPTA) will provide free bus passes for attendees. Tour packets will be available at Willow Bend the day of the tour. For more information visit:
