Five FBI Agents Under Investigation

The Finicum family wanted a thorough and official investigation into Robert “LaVoy” Finicum’s death, and they’re apparently getting it.

The U.S. Justice Department is looking into the January 26th shooting death in rural Oregon, and reports indicate that five FBI agents are under investigation in particular.

The agents being investigated are part of an elite FBI team. One of them fired two nonlethal shots at the Arizona rancher. But that agent and four others are having their decisions and activities after Finicum was shot and killed by Oregon State Troopers peeled away under a microscope.

The 55-year old Finicum (he would have been 56 the following day) was one of the leaders in the takeover of a wildlife refuge in Oregon in January. He and several others, in two vehicles, were on their way to a meeting with an Oregon sheriff when they were pulled over. A few minutes later, the fatal shots were fired.

Jeanette Finicum, LaVoy’s widow, calls her husband’s killing an assassination. That’s what she told a gathering at the steps of the Utah State Capital last weekend. Several hundred people had converged on Salt Lake City to protest the killing, and to honor Finicum.

The Grant County Sheriff Finicum and the others were on their way to see January 26th, Glen Palmer, called the law enforcement killing of Finicum, “an ambush.”

The investigation by the Justice department continues.
