First Day Hikes

The tradition known as the First Day Hike initiative in Utah will again welcome the new year.

At Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, just north of Kanab, hikers will follow GPS coordinates to view ancient ponderosa pines growing out of the coral-colored sand.  Rangers will provide interpretation on the two-mile route.  The trek’s difficulty is rated as moderate.  Leashed dogs are welcome.

The Snow Canyon State Park hike will feature petrified sand dunes.

Rated moderate, the two-mile hike will include ranger commentary.

Snow Canyon is near St. George.

The red sandstone filled with Swiss cheese-like holes is the highlight of the Dead Horse Point State Park hike.

Park trails are uneven and can be ice-covered.
