Fires Continue

June 12
13:39 2017

Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and in Arizona and Southern Utah there’s been plenty of fire lately, including two human-started fires at Dixie National Forest. High winds will continue to make work difficult for fire fighters in both states today.

The most significant fire in Northern Arizona is the “Boundary” fire in the Northeast section of Kendrick Mountain at the cusp of the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests. Highway 180 was closed at times over the weekend, and may still be blocked.

Also, the smoke being sent to the northeast from the fire is so bad that Coconino County District 5 Supervisor Lena Fowler has a public meeting scheduled this afternoon at 4 (Arizona Time…5 PM Navajo Time) at the Tuba City Chapter House. A weather expert will explain weather patterns for citizens and Fowler will take questions in English and Navajo.

The weather is expected to cool down tomorrow, but will heat-up again on Wednesday.
