Election Poll Workers Needed for Upcoming Primary and General Elections
August 03
11:21 2016

The Coconino County Election’s Office is seeking interested, civic-minded citizens to serve as paid poll workers for both the August 30 Primary and November 8 General Elections.

A poll worker must:

– Be a registered voter in Coconino County

– Be able to read and write English

– Attend an election worker training for every election

– Participate in a pre-election meeting the evening before Election Day

– Remain at the polling place on Election Day for the entire day, usual hours are from 5:30 AM until after the polls close (8:00 PM-9:00 PM)
Poll workers receive $90 for working Election Day; $20 for training and $10 for the pre-election setup meeting.

Citizens may apply online at Click on “Become an Election Board Worker.” Another option is to call the County Elections Office at 928-679-7860, the Tuba City office at 928-283-6144 or toll-free at 800-793-6181. Poll workers are needed especially in Flagstaff, Bellemont, Doney Park, Pinewood and Kachina Village.

Presidential election years see an increase in voter participation, and this year will be no exception. As of May 17, 2016, the Coconino County Recorder’s Office reported 71,985 active registered voters, which is more registrations reported than at both the 2008 and 2012 general elections.

This, coupled with a steadily increasing countywide population, and an almost 43% increase of student attendance at the Flagstaff campus of Northern Arizona University since the 2008 presidential election, means Coconino County polling places will need poll workers to support larger demand.

If interested in becoming a poll worker, or for more information about becoming a poll worker, call the Elections Office at 928-679-7860 or toll-free at 800-793-6181.
