Page Unified School District begins class Tuesday August 7th, if you’re a parent you might be going over your checklist to make sure you’ve got your child ready to start school. Besides immunizations, sports physicals, back-to-school supplies and new school clothes there’s one more thing you might want to get on top of now and that’s your child’s vision. Nothing can be harder for a student trying to see the blackboard from the back row if they are suffering from vision problems, about 80% of what a child learns at school happens visually.

Dr Kelly Varney with the Arizona College of Optometry at Midwestern University tells Lake Powell Life News eye exams for school-aged children are important even if they are not showing signs of vision impairment:

Children who qualify for Medicaid or the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System are covered for vision exams and glasses up to age 21.
