Crash into Transformer Knocks Out Electricity, Phone, Cable
No one was injured early Wednesday morning when a motorist delivering newspapers on Rim View Drive struck a transformer, knocking out power throughout Page for a second, but then leaving nearby residents without electricity for a longer period of time.
Nearby residents who lost their electricity as a result of the accident, also lost their cable and phone service, as well, according to Bryan Hill, General Manager Page Utilities Enterprises. But his crews got to work right away and by mid-morning all service was restored.
The accident happened at about 5:45 A.M. at 15th Avenue and Rim View Drive. According to Page Police Captain Ray Varner, the motorist was reaching down to grab a newspaper from the floor on the passenger side while the car was drifting. His car ended-up on top of the transformer and had to be towed.
The driver was cited for failure to control his vehicle, according to Capt. Varner.
