TRiO Student Support Services

TRiO Student Support Services Programs are federally funded. They’re designed to help low-income or disabled students complete college through tutoring, academic advising, and remedial instruction.

Since 2010, over 250 students have been helped by the TRiO program at CCC. Since the program started, student retention rates for participants are higher than those who don’t participate.

We offer our students individualized academic support that will help them succeed while at CCC and beyond.” –John Henneberg, CCC TRiO, Student Support Services Director

National TRiO Day was designated by Congress in 1986 to recognize the success of TRiO programs. For millions of low-income students who aim to be the first in their families to graduate college, TRiO programs make a world of difference. For over 40 years, TRiO programs have provided valuable support services to help disadvantaged students successfully enter and graduate college.

We want Coconino County residents to know that the TRiO program
works. We also want people to know that this program
should be expanded to serve more first generation students from low
income families across Coconino County.”–John Henneberg

TRiO services include:

  • Tutoring assistance
  • Personal and financial counseling
  • Career counseling
  • Workplace and college visits
  • Assistance in applying for financial aid
  • Assistance in transferring to a four year university

Save Coconino Community College in Page

The future of the CCC campus in Page is in question. While CCC enrollment has increased, funding has decreased. The Governing Board of the college will be meeting on Tuesday, February 25 in Flagstaff, to decide how they will best fund the college.

According to Coconino Community College President, Dr. Leah Bornstein, the college’s governing board is scheduled to consider all options as far as where to further trim the budget. Bornstein stresses the ALL part of her statement.

All areas are being analyzed, every program, every campus is under scrutiny as board members look for areas of possible savings,”–Dr. Leah Bornstein, CCC President

Unfortunately, at this point, savings means more cuts and Bornstein says the board has some very tough decisions to make when they consider options on Tuesday night.

All options are on the table, including closing the Page branch of CCC. Parents and students never pay less for college credits than here in Page at CCC. Send an e-mail of your support for our campus to our board representative, [email protected], and he’ll share the e-mails with the board at Tuesday’s meeting.

The board meeting will be televised here in Page for those interested. The meeting will be televised at the Page Coconino Community College on Tuesday February 25th beginning at 5:30 P.M. in Room D-10. This televised event is open to the general public.
