Arizona’s Sherry Cervi Wins NFR Gold

cervi_smallIt was gold again for Arizona’s Sherry Cervi at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo over the weekend in Vegas. Cervi’s horse Stingray, carried the Rodeo veteran to the 2013 WPRA Barrel Racing World Championship. Cervi, also won gold buckles in ’95, ’99, and 2010. Cervi also won the Ram Top Gun award which is a new Ram truck that is given to the contestant who wins the most money in a single event at the NFR. She got to take a ride around the Thomas and Mack Center in her new Ram Top Gun truck as she received a standing ovation. Several other records were also set by Cervi at the event.

Contestants in the bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping and bull riding along with the Women’s Professional Rodeo Associations sanctioned barrel race all competed for a total purse of $6.25 million at this year’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. On Saturday night, a record breaking 18,242 rodeo fans poured into the Thomas and Mack Center anxious to watch rodeo’s Super Bowl action and world champions crowned.

In other rodeo news, on Sunday afternoon, Las Vegas Events announced that the PRCA rejected the Las Vegas offer to keep the rodeo at the Thomas & Mack Center beyond 2014, when the event’s current 10-year contract is due to expire. The Wrangler NFR is reportedly headed to Amway Arena in Orlando in 2015.
