Car Hits Young Cyclist in Page

Officers and BikeA young girl riding her bicycle was struck by a car on the afternoon of Wednesday July 16, 2014 in Page.

The accident happened a little after 2:00 P.M. at the intersection of 7th and Elm Streets. Two girls were riding their bikes headed west on Elm Street and crossing 7th Avenue when a vehicle turned onto 7th. The vehicle was turning north onto 7th when the 2nd girl was hit as she was crossing the street. According to police, the driver said he saw the first cyclist cross the street and proceeded to make his turn when he hit the 2nd child, whom he says he didn’t see.

The 9-year old girl, while suffering from obvious cuts and abrasions after the accident, did not immediately appear to sustain any major life-threatening injuries. She was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, while not showing any signs of intoxication according to Lt. Rick Larsen with the Page Police Departments, complied with cautionary testing to verify no impairment. Larsen said the man may be cited for a failure to yield citation.
