Mayor Diak presents David Tennis with a plaque

At last night’s City Council meeting a former councilman, David Tennis, was honored with a plaque of appreciation for his service to the city.

Tennis was elected to council in May of 2011 and served until December 31, 2015.

“We appreciate your service to the city of Page,” Mayor Bill Diak said, “We do miss you on the council, you were always active and had plenty to say.”

The Mayor then presented Tennis with a plaque commemorating the councilmen’s service to the city.

During the council meeting, council approved designating April as Fair Housing Month. April has traditionally been designated as Fair Housing Month in the United States and all residents are urged to comply and show support for the spirit of the Fair Housing Acts.

The Civil Rights Act of 1968, commonly known as the Federal Fair Housing Act, and the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 prohibit discrimination in the sale, rental, leasing, and financing of housing or land to be used for the construction of housing or in provision of brokerage services on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin.

Council also approved a Fireworks Display Contract with Fireworks Productions of Arizona to put on this years Fourth of July fireworks show. The show, which will feature 1,773 aerial effects, will cost the city $14,000.

The next City Council meeting is set for Wednesday, April 23rd, at 6:30 p.m.
