On New Year’s Day, Page Police was dispatched to the Westview Apartments at 1125 Grandview St. after a female subject reported her boyfriend was intoxicated and had a gun.

The female subject fled the residence and met with officers who determined the suspect, identified as 29 year old Matthew Begay became disorderly in the residence and threatened to shoot everyone.

Begay was allegedly armed with an AR15 rifle.

Officers arrived on scene to observe a subject who was later determined to be Begay inside the residence through a window holding what appeared to be an AR15 rifle.

Begay would not come out despite commands from officers and proceeded to barricade himself inside. Page Police Department, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, and Department of Public Safety contained the scene to await a swat team dispatched from Flagstaff.

Begay barricaded himself inside for approximately four hours before police negotiating via telephone convinced Begay to finally exit the residence.

Begay was arrested without further incident for domestic violence disorderly conduct involving a weapon, domestic violence threatening and prohibited possession of a firearm.

In a search of the residence, officers recovered the AR15 weapon along with a large amount of ammunition.
