Biological and physical environmental samples will be collected by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and Arizona Game and Fish from the Arizona portion of Lake Powell as part of continued monitoring for potential impacts of the Gold King Mine Spill in Colorado.

Along with Lake Powell, similar collection efforts will be taken 15 miles downstream of Glen Canyon Dam at Lee’s Ferry on the Colorado River.

Samples will include fish tissue sample and will be collected through mid-October and analyzed for heavy metals. The data will then be compared with historical data in an effort to document potential future negative impacts to Lake Powell and the Blue Ribbon trout fishery at Lee’s Ferry.

The ADEQ completed sampling to characterize baseline water quality at both sites last week and expects to receive those results soon.

The baseline results will then be compared to Arizona surface water quality standards and historical data.
